King’s Cross/Our neighbourhood

King’s Cross is London's creative neighbourhood and home of the extraordinary. It comprises 67 acres of inspiring businesses, outstanding architecture, destination retail and dining and a vibrant cultural scene.

The area’s industrial past has inspired the 50 new and repurposed buildings, including Coal Drops Yard, the iconic Gasholders London and the Granary Building. The estate also includes 27 acres of public space, ranging from parks, streets, squares and gardens, with Granary Square and its iconic fountains at its heart.

Every day, 41,000 people live, work and study in King’s Cross. It is a hub of creativity and innovation and the home of start-ups, SMEs and world-renowned brands such as Meta, Google, Havas, Universal Music Group and AstraZeneca. The destination is also alive with the capital’s best places to eat, drink and shop.

Our commitment to people and planet

Protecting our planet

King’s Cross is committed to an ambitious Net Zero Carbon plan. We are doing this in several ways, but at the heart of the strategy is the decarbonisation of the Energy Centre, which currently provides low-carbon heating and hot water to 1,750 homes and 5 million sq ft of commercial space.

We are also planting 600,000 trees across four plots of land in Scotland, totalling 200 hectares. The initiative is expected to sequester between 90,000 and 153,000 tonnes of carbon over the next 60 years.

Supporting our communities

We are committed to delivering positive social impact with all those who interact with our neighbourhood. Our social value strategy is built on four core pillars: maximising social impact, tackling inequality, safety and belonging and creating healthy spaces.

These pillars guide our day-to-day decision making, the partnerships we form and how we design programmes for local people, ensuring that King’s Cross remains inclusive, accessible and responsive to our communities' needs.

King's Cross is a global exemplar of how to make a community of places which supports human activity, maintains an urban identity and is supple enough to accommodate inevitable change.
